My Quote of the Day

"I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best." ----- Marylin Monroe

This seemed like an appropriate topic for Mother’s Day.
I am not sure when these became a staple in my life, or even if I came up with the name or concept myself.  But, for years now, the “Girl Bath” has been a huge part of my life.

A Girl Bath, in case you don’t know… is a time you are able to go into your bath – door locked for as long as you like – with any or all of the following niceties ….. Soft music, candles, sweet bath soaps, salts, oils.  HOT water, fresh towels, rose or other flower petals and perhaps a glass of wine, juice, a skinny margarita – whatever floats your boat….  Soon to be followed by a fluffy robe – amazing lotions and potions…..  And slipping quietly, and undisturbed into a bed made with fresh linens.  (What happens after that depends on what kind of mood you are in after your Girl Bath)  Believe me; men are hoping you have a little spark.

My quest for the perfect Girl Bath has determined homes that have been purchased.  How chores are divided up.  Night time Duties with small children, and far more then I would like to admit to at this time.  To my friends that know me….. Insert look of shame here.

Believe me when I tell you, EVERY woman needs Girl Baths.  The frequency depends entirely upon you.  Some may require a nightly respite.  While others are happy with one weekly or even…..please help me….Monthly.

In honor of Mother’s Day – I received a LARGE bag from Bath and Body Works, that included more fragrances then one could smell in a month.  My poor son only lasted about 3 minutes before he asked if he could please sit on the bench outside…. (I found it comical that they just happen to have one there).  My daughter on the other hand, wanted to know why they didn’t have carts…. She is her Mother’s Daughter.  I am just glad she was there to shop for me…. (LOL)

Honestly though – This is a call to men across the globe.  Shop on Etsy for All your soap – Lotions and Potions!!!  Girl Bathers everywhere will thank you.  While, I can’t complain about my more than ample Mother’s Day gift….. I am on Etsy right making sure I have my necessities for my Bath tomorrow night – Those Dang Southern Thunderstorm have ruined my chances for one tonight …..
Have a Happy Mother’s Day all!

I hate photography.

I love my job, but I hate photography.  However - More and more, online business IS a photography driven media.  Of course it is - I don’t know why I would have ever thought different.  We are the new catalog of the world.  Only – we create the product but don’t know how to take pictures.

I have stumbled through Etsy tutorials, I have a nice camera, I play with lights, papers, stones, wood…..  Thankfully for the most part, people say my pictures are ok…..  And most people, that would be great.  Not me…. I want them to be amazing – I want to be the shop that everyone wants on their team.  I have no idea why this bothers me so much, my business has been increasing every month – but for some reason – this picture thing is eating at me.
So today, (I have to admit) ….  I bought a light box that I can’t afford.  WTF am I thinking!!!  (sorry for my PG readers)    I was wondering that and I typed my PayPal password in and sent the payment.
To make it all worse, I wanted the one that was 2 times as much.  If this one doesn’t make me a photographic superstar, next month I will be buying the more expensive box.

I am asking myself over and over, is my shop a business, or so sort of game, and I am playing and trying to paw my way to the winners circle.  That has yet to be determined.  I do know I love making sparkly things.  Every day I my mail box is like a Christmas tree containing treasures beyond my wildest dreams.  I know I get to live my life, and weave all of those experiences into every piece of jewelry I make.  What I can’t answer is why more than half of my inventory is sitting in pretty velvet boxes and not listed on my Etsy site.  This is the “monkey” on my back.

Before I sign off for the night – I have to dive into a little fantasy – for without it, we would all be stuck in reality – UGH.  Game of Thrones this week – A war is brewing, and I love the people on both sides.  This will not end well for someone.  I fear the winners to be the current holders of the Throne.  But anyone that watches, can’t help but love our beloved Khaleesi (Queen)
PS – I tried making some awesome dragon eggs and they caught fire and blew up…… I never give up.  Fear not – there are some amazing Talismans’ in our future.

Game of Thrones

I tried really hard to write about something practical.  About A program to help you manage your social networking accounts or even some new programs to keep your business in order….but I have to tell you….. In all honesty… My mind has been on the new HBO series – The Game of Thrones.

I know this catapults me into a new level of geek dome  that some of you weren’t aware existed.  But it is now that I choose to tell you that with all that is going on with your small business….life goes on.  Don’t miss out.  Your Children may be asking to have their name changed to Caliesee.  (don’t ask)

I blame my daughter, and her imagination.  I blame the way she talks to me and it all makes sense.  I blame the story tellers and their infectious tongues, and how they weave a web of tales so tightly you feel like you are there living among the characters.  I know if I had time to read books, I would have been long lost to them. However, my time is lost in Sunday night story's before bedtime.  Them ones my kids climb in bed to watch with me.  I am weak.  Weak to the fantasy and mystery that stories like this tell.  Congratulations HBO.  You have me and my children held captive from week to week. Watching each story over to make sure not to miss a subtle hint.....  I suppose we are players.....in the Game of Thrones.

With that said.......every job comes some down time – some of which you can choose to use to your shops advantage!!!!  I am unveiling a new line of dragon egg talismans this week.  Stay tuned!!!!
Life is to short……game on.
